I’m reminded by my good friends and mentors at MadMike’s America, that today is George Orwell’s birthday. The venerable author, linguist and political activist would have been 110 years old, today.
One of my favorite Orwell characters – and not related to my avocation – is Boxer, the horse from Animal Farm. Boxer was a truly selfless individual. Even as his own breath was failing him, he would utter what was to him a mantra, “I must work harder.” Regardless of what Boxer was intended to represent to the story, one can’t help but to respect his work ethic.
I feel like Boxer, sometimes – I’m sure we all do. One area where Boxer’s unstoppable attitude would serve me, is in helping to free Felix Garcia. We had a great week, and got almost 100 new signatures on Felix’s petition, but things are starting to slow up.
Felix’s clemency hearing is underway now. We need to get those thousand signatures and get this petition sent out, or it won’t do any good. Imagine the following scenario:
James Stewart, in classic monochrome, is doing his heartfelt summation. In his best small town Southern drawl, he snaps his suspenders and produces a document with 1000 names – from all over the World – calling for a full pardon for this innocent Deaf man. Surely, that could sway a jury. Surely, that could cause a rivulet to form in the icy heart of Florida Attorney General, Pam Bondi. A rivulet that could grow into a raging torrent. As the Duke Ellington soundtrack builds to its crescendo, and Mr. Stewart squirts his crocodile tears, even Florida Governor Rick Scott couldn’t help but to feel an ounce of compassion for a man who has ceded his entire youth to a failure of the judicial system.
Felix needs to be free. And I – in order to help make that happen – like Boxer, must work harder.
Time is running out! Please click on the link and sign Felix Garcia’s petition.

Just want to let you know that ideafnews will make a video about him and they will add links and post peition on their website as well. When it is up I will let you know. I am working with you. I am ecastic to see numbers increasing now. Let us party when it is over. 🙂 ideafnews is interested to interview Felix. I will connect them with Pat next month so it will be good too.
Excellent! And yes, we’ll party! 🙂
When the petition reach to 500…repost it. Type all in caps and say DEAF INMATE needs your help or something like that…repost every 100 signatures…maybe that will help too. Forget NAD and FAD! We work this together. We are a great team.
Thanks for your support, Penny – and sadly, I’m all too familiar with the NAD and FAD outlook.
Many people are signing the petition. Lately people from Florida are signing it. I was surprised to see a former law enforcement signed the petition. How did this news spread so fast to Florida? What is your secret? It is working this time and now many are coming to the petition site. It is a miracle.
